JRC SUMMER SCHOOL ON NON-ANIMAL APPROACHES IN SCIENCE

This year’s participant in the “JRC Summer School on Non-animal Approaches in Science” (23-26 May 2023) organized by the European Commission’s Joint Research Center and its EU Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EURL ECVAM) was Marta Biesiekierska from the Department of Translational Research of NIOM.

The meeting in an international group was a great platform for exchanging information on the ethical aspects of the use of laboratory animals, with an emphasis on lectures about the latest technologies given by experts during the morning plenary sessions, including, i.a. pluripotent stem cells, organ-on-chip, and artificial intelligence.

An equally interesting point of the meeting was visiting the EURL ECVAM laboratories, allowing to get acquainted with the latest projects, such as a laboratory in virtual reality. In addition, the program of the event provided time for numerous discussions, as well as the presentation of a poster with the results of the research performed.
